Chillalo Awakening

The light on Mt. Chillalo
rolls away the soft grey blanket
that covers who knows how many
secrets hidden from themselves

The light on Mt. Chillalo
plunges into the forest’s heart
sending the jackal deep
into his dark burrow.

The light on Chillalo
seeps into the Rift Valley
where with a slow flash
whole plains are illuminated.

The light on Chillalo
shimmers across the lakes
and warms the sleek bodies
of infinite cold creatures.

The light on Chillalo
turns the leopard’s coat
from black to gold
but misses a number of spots.

The light on Chillalo
complicates the jungle greenery
sending a million vines and
leaves in every direction.

The light on Mt. Chillalo
touches the faraway peaks
massaging their blind faces
soon to see everything.
