Sandra Bonadeus is a Brazilian actress, an actress with a vocational work, a work of body and soul but most of all a work of persistance. After a season in Brazil, Sandra is going to perform in New York.
Amar se Aprende Amando is the play that will be performed in New York on March 2005, at the Bildner Center. It is based on the poems of Carlos Drummond de Andrade(1902-1987), one of the greatest Brazilian poets of the XXth century.
The play is an one actress play. Maria is the only character, inspired in the poem Quadrilha. On stage, she relives the remembrances of her love experiences. In 55 minutes she goes from desire to fear, pleasure to pain, happiness to doubt. She lives all the feelings that lovers feel. The play puts on stage 150 poems of Drummond about how to learn about love. Maria wants to re-learn love. It is possible that she finds no magic formula for that, but the journey itself is the goal.
Many words has been said about love, it is really a theme that is over-explored. But Sandra is an actress and Drummond is a genius; the partnership is a poetic meeting and this makes all the difference.

The FTC (Festival de Teatro de Curitiba) - This year's edition of the Festival de Teatro de Curitiba has ended. The greatest theatre festival in Brazil was created by two young students: Leandro Knoplholz and Carlos Eduardo Bittencourt. They had the idea to create a theatre festival in Curitiba, the capital of the state of Parana, after noticing the low number of plays that the city offered. At first Carlos was in doubt but Leandro said "Why not?" From the "Why not?" to this year festival there are thirteen years. Today the FTC has in its history 747 performances for an audience of 700,000 people. The 2004 Festival had a 10% increase in audience. The FTC becomes a window where everyone can see the most recent Brazilian theatre production. This year there were 11 days of festival, 144 plays performed. Sonhos de Einstein, by Intrépida Trupe, Fausto Zero, directed by Gabriel Villela and Coração Bazar, directed by José Possi Neto and performed by Regina Duarte had the largest audiences and were quickly sold out. For more information you can go to www.festivaldeteatro.com Now the curtain is closed but the FTC will raise it again in March 2005. See Curitiba next year!
